School Athletic Director


ACCOUNTABILITY
The School Athletic Director shall be under the administrative direction of the Principal.

GENERAL DEFINITION OF JOB DESCRIPTION
This position has been developed to provide our school with spiritual leadership through the ministry of school athletics.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implement and coordinate and athletic program that meets the needs of Zion Lutheran School.
  2. Develop the athletic program that promotes athletic, social, spiritual, and social growth.
    1. Provide a program that teaches skill, sportsmanship and how to both win and lose in athletic competition.
  3. Handle all administrative matters: budget, equipment, transportation, and all scheduling of athletic events. This includes registering participants, determine and collecting fees, providing for insurance coverage, providing basic equipment, planning schedules, boosters, and giving adequate publicity.
  4. Recruit, train, and supervise coaches, athletes, referees, time/scorekeepers according to Christian standards and Zion's policies for the schools athletic programs.
  5. Manage the usage of our schools physical education and athletic equipment. All school sports activities are to be coordinate through this position.
  6. Work closely with the Principal in organizing and conducting a physical education program for Grades K through 8 under the supervision of the Schools Board.
  7. Recognize the importance and maintain a close and harmonious working relationship with the members of the church, schools, its leadership and staff.
  8. Attend all Local meetings for athletic directors.
  9. Ensure safety, proper care of uniforms/equipment is maintained by setting up policy.
  10. Performs the above stated duties in additions to those listed under the "General Job Description of the Zion Day School Teacher."
  11. Performs other related duties as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Synodically trained or colloqued, or willing to do so; Teacher Education degree with emphasis in Physical Education; a faculty member of Zion Lutheran School; fingerprinted, first aid training up to date, knowledge of athletics, knowledge of basic computer skills, experience in scheduling sporting events, a member of Zion who participates in worship and witness; a cooperative, loyal person able to relate to children.

SERVICE
10 month Call, days off as covered by the Personal Policy

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The job requires that the candidate be in generally good health, be able to lift up to 40 pounds, have good eyesight and hearing, the ability to communicate clearly, possess computer skills and be able to drive a vehicle.
